LOS ANGELES, CA — California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) will celebrate leaders in the fight for climate justice at its annual Badass in Green awards ceremony. The event will take place at SmogShoppe in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 28 with participants joining from around the state.
“We are inspired and motivated by the work of this year’s badass leaders,” said Mary Creasman, CEO, California Environmental Voters. “It’s going to take all of us to fight for climate justice and action — and these leaders are showing us all how to get it done!”
The event will honor Genesis Butler, environmental activist and founder of Genesis for Animals; Caroline Choi, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Southern California Edison and Edison International; Adam McKay, Academy Award-nominated writer, director, and producer of Don’t Look Up; and Violet Sage Walker, Chairwoman of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council. In addition, California Attorney General Rob Bonta will be the Centerpiece Speaker at the event.
“You’re never too young to advocate for our planet,” said Genesis Butler, environmental activist and founder of Genesis for Animals. “I became a climate activist at ten after learning about the devastating effects that animal agriculture has on the environment. I am so honored to be recognized by EnviroVoters and encourage young people across California to learn more about the work they are doing to fight the climate crisis. We are in this together!”
“To address the climate crisis in California, Southern California Edison is leading the transition to a clean energy future that is inclusive and affordable for the communities we serve,” said Caroline Choi, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Southern California Edison and its parent company, Edison International. “We are proud to partner with EnviroVoters on the important work that remains. I am honored to be selected for this award and accept it on behalf of my 13,000 colleagues.”
“I’m honored to receive this recognition from EnviroVoters whose work in calling attention to the urgency of the climate crisis is more critical than ever,” said Adam McKay, Academy Award-nominated writer, director, and producer of Don’t Look Up. “The recent IPCC reports provided both a sobering and scary timeline, but we have the answers and the technology to avert much catastrophe. We all need to do our part to protect the livable climate.”
Special guests will include California Senator Henry Stern, California Assemblymember Laura Friedman, and California Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes.
The Badass In Green Awards are sponsored by Dake Landscaping, Fast Forward Group, and Edison International.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all. Join us at www.envirovoters.org and on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. See more press releases.
