The Future of Our Future: Join the Fight for 30x30!

In 2020, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-82-20, directing state agencies to advance strategies that will conserve at least 30% of California’s lands and waters by 2030 as a way to combat the climate crisis, conserve biodiversity, and boost climate resilience. The executive order bolsters California’s position as a global leader in climate action, joining international 30×30 efforts and leading the way for President Biden to issue a similar executive order nationwide.

Only 22% of California’s lands and waters are currently protected, so our state must keep the drumbeat going. Californians are all too familiar with the risks of the climate crisis with devastating wildfires, droughts, and floods proving that we can’t slow down. In addition, protecting 30% of lands and waters would allow for more equitable public access to outdoor spaces, especially for lower-income areas and communities of color who are three times more likely to lack immediate access to nature.

30×30 affects every Californian, regardless of whether they live in an urban or rural area. Green spaces across the state are threatened by development, which also affect restoration efforts, job creation, and infrastructure investments. The 30×30 commitment is not only the bare minimum if we want to combat the climate crisis, but it is an overall win across the board.

How can I help?
