2022 State Priorities

We advocate in Sacramento, across the state, and in Washington, D.C. to expand access to democracy, to take bold action on climate, and to protect and enhance the land, air, water, and health of all California communities.

Our 2022 priorities for the State of California include:

  • A #ClimateCourageBudget in which Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers dedicate at least $75 billion over five years – just 5% of state spending – to protect our future.
  • Corporate accountability focused on ensuring that the largest corporate polluters are held accountable for their contribution to pollution and the climate crisis.
  • Improve air quality for communities who are overburdened with toxic air pollution.
  • Accelerate the adoption of clean energy and better prepare California’s grid infrastructure to support increased clean energy resources and to more quickly decarbonize our buildings and transportation sector.
  • Create family-sustaining union jobs in industries and sectors that reduce pollution and support a clean energy economy.
  • Ending our dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Massively expanding equitable access to electric vehicles and electrical vehicle charging, in addition to massively expanding public transit infrastructure to reduce the number of cars on the road.
  • Invest in proven solutions that prevent wildfires and make communities more resilient to worsening wildfires.
  • Decarbonize the buildings sector, ensuring that all new buildings are electrified and developing a strategy to equitably and affordably decarbonize existing buildings.
  • Implement solutions that will deliver on the promise of clean water access and that will make our water resources more sustainable.
  • Protect California’s precious natural resources and landscapes and expand equitable access to the outdoors — expanding public access to nature, conserving natural resources, and maximizing carbon sequestration on California’s natural and working lands.
